Elegy

by Steve Winstead

Grade 4
Duration: 7:00

Elegy was written in solemn remembrance of the nearly 3,000 victims of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States. It musically captures the sadness, anger, and grief borne by all Americans since that unforgettable event. Its somber and beautifully lyrical melodies are a reminder of the tragedy and suffering from that day and the lasting effects the nation has felt.

Originally written for ten-piece clarinet choir, it was arranged for concert band by the composer, and premiered by the 392nd Army Band at Fort Lee, Virginia. It has also been arranged for string orchestra.
