Danse Sociopathique for Saxophone Quintet
Danse Sociopathique
by Steve Winstead
Grade 5
Duration 3:30
You guessed correctly; the title translates to “Sociopathic Dance” and is presented in French to maintain the illusion of elegance, which persists only until the first note is sounded. With its sharp, stabbing rhythms and dark, creepy melodies, this piece is best suited for well-adjusted players with a strong support system.
Scored for Sopranino, Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Baritone saxophones. If a Sopranino is not available, the part may be played on E-flat clarinet, or perhaps up an octave on alto by a player with a strong command of altissimo.
