​The Summit is an original composition for advanced concert band by composer James Khoury. It is an integrated symphonic poem that takes musicians and listeners alike across a range of orchestral textures and musical episodes. Built around an opening three-note motif announced by French Horns, the composer experiments with several variations of the motif, through varied thematic and melodic transformations, and constant changes in scoring, including brass fanfares, polytonal passages, Latin-inspired melodies, and cinematic marches. Drawing inspiration from composers of film and concert band music, The Summit contains multiple features for brass, woodwinds, and an expansive percussion section, offering musicians a multitude of challenging and exciting performance opportunities.
